yurtmeister Pat and I went out from the Yurt to ski around the base of Griffin Mountain toward the Catt Creek drainage. We crossed this meadow area usually filled with slide alder and willow in the summer but now weighed down by heavy snow. Pat tried out his new digital camera and made some interesting compositions but that fat guy kept skiing into his frame. We went off trail through the forest where it would have been next to impossible with no snow because of some marshy areas and dense undergrowth. One of the other joys of spring skiing is that the temperature was in the 50's. Yes, the snow is that deep.
Peace

My Son, Seth, and I spent the weekend grooming the trails of the south district of the Mount Tahoma Trails -- it snowed all weekend... these folks enjoyed the trails and the Yurt and all the snowl...
yurtmeister took a couple visitors up to show them the yurt... I hope they return when there's snow in the air and skiers on the trails... when The Yurt shines...
This is a design I made for possible use as a tee shirt silk screen design and/or for a coffee mug. comments? pro/con
I was planning to use the photo this was made from for a cup but the prices I've found so far are a bit high for reselling profitably and for using for replacements for the ones at the yurt now that I'd prefer be discarded.
Cookie, Hoodoo, and I went up to MTTA this weekend and yurtmeister Pat rode with us. Pat worked on pulling the edge of the roof down over the wall---which has been a major challenge because the diameter of the yurt as it exists now is a little greater than the diameter of the new roof... (for a number of reasons that will raise Pat's metabolism rate if you ask him). I acted as "ladder ballast" and did a good job because Pat didn't fall at all... which is good... I didn't aggravate the healing of my shoulder... Cookie did some cleaning and planning work... Hoodoo did Hoodoo things...
We got home a little while ago and now I'm about to drive up to Whidbey Island to assist with a photo workshop at Coupeville Arts Center
Here are some photos of the work in progress at last week's work party when we installed the new roof. It started raining about an hour after we got it into place but more time working on it will be needed till it's ready for winter snows...

I made this image early one foggy morning while I was waiting for the MTTA volunteers to arrive for the yurt work party where we replaced the wall. The meadow is bounded by a new forest of Grand Fir. The majority of the meadow is soggy recently having been a marsh. I had to walk on fallen logs to keep from sinking into muck under the grasses. I thought the original image was too busy so I used some Photoshop magic to reduce detail and paint in edges. The fog was swirling and thin in places so in the distance the fog looked bluish on film. I reduced the saturation of the blues and took advantage of the warm hues introduced by the 81A warming filter I used on the camera. Also using a polarizer helped bring out the color of the grasses. The nice greens of the trees is to the credit of the Velvia film I used. Camera: Nikon F4, Lens: 75-300mm, feet: wet...
About a month ago at Mount Tahoma Trails Association, we replaced the wall on the YURT. The weekend was foggy with a heavy mist falling at times and there was a lot of work involved. About 8 or so volunteers worked from sunup to sundown and enjoyed filling meals at the Snow Bowl Hut. I made photographs as work progressed and they can be found ( here )
