'just ran across this and liked how svelte my shadow looked and after the biggest rainstorm in the history of recordkeeping in these parts, the desert looks inviting.

a bad photo and the birds wouldn't get organized and get in a line... this is a small crop from an image in the village of Ocracoke, North Carolina on the Outer Banks. Reviewing images, their disarray caught my eye. I didn't move a thing. 'pocket Pentax point in the general direction digi camera'

While I was on the trail on my way to Owen's Pond or one of the others in the area, I came across some disturbance happening in the brush off the trail about ten yards. I stopped to see if it were some hurt animal from the crashing and thrashing happening but found this couple instead.finding geocache ©2004 Ed Book http://edbookphoto.com They were off the trail because they were following their GPS thingie to a Geocache. I told them I was interested and they showed me the clues they had to the site. I asked which direction it was and then commented that I thought the trail probably was parallel to their route... uh huh, it did, so they detoured along the trail for the next couple hundred yards till it was obvious that the cache was near and they would now have to brushwack but not far...

I tagged along to see what was in the cache. I won't tell where it was except to show them finding it. Here is what it contained... There was a notebook and some trinkets and a disposable camera for them to photograph themselves with. They took something from the cache and placed something of theirs in it.

I think that if I wasn't so busy with photography, I would probably take up that hobby and would be interested in placing caches myself.

finding geocache ©2004 Ed Book http://edbookphoto.comLater on in my trip, when mucking about in the San Rafael Swell in Utah looking for interesting rock and cactus compositions, I came across some rocks that didn't look naturally placed... something was amiss and I investigated, hoping that maybe it was some stash of treasure. I moved the rocks aside with my foot being watchful for lurking scorpions and snakes and spiders or whatever other dangerous hiding things there are in the desert. It was a geocache... I looked up to see a car pulling off the road to look at the scenery and promptly walked away so as not to give it's location away. Then, when they were gone, I returned to pick up the cache to see what was in it. I walked away from the spot on rocks so as not to leave a telltale to it's location. I opened the cache and the same type things were in it too... I left a note in the notebook and then returned it to it's hiding place being careful not to leave any hints to it's location left via the rock route again...

Peace
