I was hoping that this pass-through of this region would include a few days at Great Basin National Park but I was homeward bound and only had a couple days before something I had to be home for... so, my only glimpse like on my last visit was at sundown... So what I know of this new national park is what I've read and this silhouette.
when I left Nevada via Winnemucca headed north into Oregon the sun was dropping over the horizon painting alpenglo in the clouds...
I drove on a while in darkness and when the road started climbing into forest, I stopped for the night at a wide place beside the road where the snow had been plowed...
it was a good crossing... I didn't lose any money (except at the gas pump) I didn't gamble except eating that breakfast at the only place open at 5AM - the casino... I enjoyed the terrain though...

ps while eating breakfast at a casino in Elko, the folks at the next table kept making crude remarks to the waitress. She acted as if she didn't notice and even made a comment back (degrading to herself) something about her body parts... and when they left... breakfast for three people... $1 tip... when I was crossing the street to my van, I saw them driving by in a new black Cadillac Escalade...
that lead to foothills that climb to mountains... but in the protected places were water accumulates sage thrives as well as some decidious trees, Junipers, and Pinyon Pine
trees huddle on protected higher slopes that catch water and some shade and the rest is like this...
it was chilly that day... in the low teens in the morning with the sun warming what it shone on and a high in the high twenties... the ground was crisp all day... and the breeze brisk...
