original )

I was up on Whidbey Island today and stopped at Fort Casey on my way home. 'tended to some business, met some nice folks and visited some friends - excellent weather but I'm not ready for spring yet-

-I heard that there was at least a couple inches of snow today above 4000 ft... that means good skiing for the folks that visit MTT this weekend.

EDIT: uh oh, I just looked at the High Hut webcam and saw that there isn't fresh snow and the 10ft mark on the snow gauge is showing... I guess 10 ft is good enough... we'll have snow up there till the end of May...

Peace

Currituck Beach lighthouse outer banks North Carolina (C)2004 Ed Book edbookphoto.com

When I was at this location at the north end of the drivable portion of the outer banks islands of North Carolina, the light wasn't lit till darkness... When I returned from attempting to photograph the color at the beach during sunset there was not enough light to make a photograph with the film camera. However, the Pentax Optio S40 4MP digital camera I had with me would render an image that I could tweak a bit to get an acceptable 'documentary' image. On this trip, by dark each day, I would be so tired that I would just want to find a parking place and crawl into the back to my comfy bed and try to catch some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz till the alarm at about o'dark thirty (4:30-5:30). So, I drove by the lighthouse looking for a parking place and pointed the camera out the window holding it against the door frame to steady it... nope, that didn't work... although the camera has a setting to make exposures as long as 4 seconds, I had to raise the ASA to 400 and after about a half dozen tries, I got out and set the camera on a tripod to steady it enough for the 4 second exposure...

then, I had to tweak a bit in photoshop to get an acceptable image. This is one of those lights that pulses instead of sweeping the horizon so there was no beam projected like what I recorded when I photographed Hatteras light.

Peace

in panorama format and a little lighter... different versions of the same image -- different stories to tell

I made this digital phot from the ferry between Seattle and Bremerton when we entered Rich Passage... I couldn't decide whether to leave this as it is or crop off most of the water and make it a panorama
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 990, hand held (to hold a camera steadier while on a ferry or other boat that transmits vibrations through the deck and your body or tripod - stand on your toes and as you lower yourself to flat feet, trip the shutter... it will dampen the vibrations...) does anyone dispute this? It's my own observations and I could be wrong.

This image was made early one morning on a motorcycle Phot Expd to the east coast. I had once lived in this area and had often photgraphed at Mystic Seaport but this trip I was only passing through and wanted to get past NYC before rush traffic... ('got stuck a few hours on the freeways there anyway) It was about first light and threatening rain so I had to make a very long exposure to get enough light and then get on the road. The flat photograph shows very little saturated color so in Photoshop I desaturated the image and then gave it a sepia tone which seems to suit the subject.
Camera: Nikon 8008, Film: ??
