yes, they were, talking to each other and to me too; sometimes very directly like in this one. One thing I look at when in the forest is the relationship between plants, all the factors that relate and the visual/physicalness of their story. In my travels, there have been many trees that spoke to me enough to return over and over through the years. I often go to some of these places in my mind when I need to feel peace. When I see photos of them that I've made, (and some videos, after we've visited a few times) I am back there at those times.)
There's a tree that I stop to visit every time I cross the Cascade Range over White Pass. It has changed so much over the years but I would always recognize it in any image. When I passed that way in October, I stopped overnight so I could look at it in morning light.
Rocks talk to me too. They say things like "take me with you" and I do. Every trip I bring more- I have hundreds, tons waiting for their places to be ready around the pond and waterfall that I've been working on for a few years (on and off-mostly off recruiting more rocks)
I take students into the field with me sometimes... work some overtime and save your pennies. Ask me about my rates sometime... hope, you're having good journeys...
All of your fall leaves pictures have been just gorgeous, Ed. I've really been enjoying them. But I think this one is my favorite so far. The structrue of that tree, the contrasting color of its trunk, it's just marvelous.
