Tell a Friend
I met the owner of this truck on the trail at Smuggler's Notch. He said he painted it like this so he wouldn't have to worry about someone stealing it when it was parked at trailheads. I agree...

Peace

I'll have to consider that for my Ranger one day...

But more tastefully, of course.

I forgot his name... I have it in my notes but finding them is like finding the transparencies from that trip. It'll take time... send in the clones.

I remember that he was leaving the lodge that he had been working at along the Long Trail in the Green Mtns that day. That's why he had such a large pack.

Peace

Is that a problem for vehicles left at trailheads? Theft I mean, not interesting paint jobs.

It can be... it's one of the reasons I painted my 4WD van with white house paint with a brush in 15 minutes... and kept some clean trash to strew around inside when I would be on the trail... no one looking in the window would think that under the pile was a lot of expensive photo equip.

however, that van is too rough riding on smooth highways and not suitable for trips like the 14,000 mile one that I took last autumn (when I made these photos) I normally travel now with a much newer van and tend to dayhike to prevent break-ins when on long trips. I don't think many vehicles are stolen but they are broken into... This pickup however gets parked for long periods of time at this trailhead because the owner works at a lodge along the Long Trail and is away for a week at a time.

Peace

I love the people we meet when going out into the backcountry. Everyone is so nice and is full of character and stories.
